Swimming in the warm Pacific Ocean at sunrise is so very healing. The beaches are again open for us, though only from 5am – 8am M-F, for now. That will do. 3 years ago my rented house had a view of the bay here in Samara. As I awoke in the morning I would gaze out to the sea in front of me and I knew that the next landfall to the south was Antarctica. Nothing between me and that landfall but ~8000nm of open ocean. I loved that image.
This morning as I lay floating on my back in the gentle swell with the warm sun on my face, I gazed up at the blue sky. As I did I realized the next place I would arrive at, were I able to travel in that direction (and who knows, maybe we can) might be the edge of the known universe, or beyond. Humbling.
